Frederick Hensley CATOR, son of Robert James CATOR (1864-1951) and Elizabeth Eliza HINSLEY (1866-1940), was born on 30 April 1887 in Stow Bedon, Norfolk. On 3 October 1905 Frederick was attested into the army, Royal Horse and Royal Field Artillery, Serv. No. 38520, and was declared fit for service the same day in London. He joined the R.F.A. on 7 October at Woolwich. Initially he joined for 3 years but on 3 February 1908 extended his service to 6 years (and, whilst in Lucknow, on 12 May 1911 to 12 years). He served on home soil until 5 February 1908 when he went to India. On 17 December 1913 he was on trial for striking his superior officer on 1 December, found guilty and sentenced to 60 days detention. He was released on 6 February 1914 having been remitted 9 days for good behaviour. No date has been found for Frederick’s return to the U.K. (He may well have been in India for some or all the Great War as the R.F.A. had brigades defending the Northwest Frontier.) His return to the U.K. may have been via Port Said, Egypt as he is noted as being there in early 1919. Frederick was transferred to the Class “Z” Army Reserve on 12 April 1919 and discharged on termination of his period of service on 31 March 1920. He died on 19 June 1953 in North Lopham. He was buried on 24 June 1953 in North Lopham, the ceremony was conducted by Rev. R. Lacey WEBB - aged 66 years.8
